My little boy just turned three on New Years Day. Since we have the celebration from the holidays still coercing through our blood I usually don't do much for his birthday besides a cake and presents. This year he is fascinated by Bob the Builder and Construction Equipment, or "diggers" as we call them. My mom was already giving him little diggers for his birthday present so I decided to use them on the cake instead.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-q3aV1gc7EYA/TwY1FhlTYyI/AAAAAAAAD44/suxqIj72l0Y/s1600/100_3106.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-q3aV1gc7EYA/TwY1FhlTYyI/AAAAAAAAD44/suxqIj72l0Y/s400/100_3106.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I stacked two 9" white cakes and frosted them with white frosting (we are a white cake family!) I then took kit kat candy bars and cut them in half and put them around the edges. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NclsePnsbxU/TwY1c1tF41I/AAAAAAAAD5U/GJmQ4lz-QN0/s1600/100_3111.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NclsePnsbxU/TwY1c1tF41I/AAAAAAAAD5U/GJmQ4lz-QN0/s400/100_3111.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used chocolate rocks and chocolate covered peanuts for the dirt and gravel. I smashed up some of the chocolate covered peanuts to make it look like smaller clumps of dirt and used some large pieces to fill in the top of the cake. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-44styZy8Ik0/TwY1Z1atNfI/AAAAAAAAD5M/GiGFFE21dS8/s1600/100_3110.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-44styZy8Ik0/TwY1Z1atNfI/AAAAAAAAD5M/GiGFFE21dS8/s400/100_3110.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I used the frosting to help build up the rock piles into each digger. Chocolate frosting would have blended in a little better than the white frosting but I think it wouldn't have shown the details of the "dirt" as well. I wish I would have had some crushed oreo cookies to fill in the white spaces.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vwFe6yBgTIA/TwY1f3ik-1I/AAAAAAAAD5c/EhBVsGmPnaA/s1600/100_3112.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vwFe6yBgTIA/TwY1f3ik-1I/AAAAAAAAD5c/EhBVsGmPnaA/s400/100_3112.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This cake was fun to make and was pretty stress free. I didn't try to make it even or frost it perfectly and got to dump dirt and rocks where they needed to be. My kind of cake!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XefKRKD8K1M/TwY1DK_8lpI/AAAAAAAAD4w/lwH6smooqek/s1600/100_3100.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XefKRKD8K1M/TwY1DK_8lpI/AAAAAAAAD4w/lwH6smooqek/s400/100_3100.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Can you tell he was excited about his birthday cake?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
The best part was watching him eat his cake with his diggers. </div>

I remember as a kid pushing out the nasty, cardboard chocolates that you would get from the advent calendars from the store. I didn't want my own child to go through that experience! So when a friend of mine found a cute idea for an advent calendar for different holidays from <a href="http://www.infarrantlycreative.net/2011/11/count-your-blessings-hershey-kiss-board.html" target="_blank">Infarrantly Creative</a> using Chocolate Kisses, I was excited to make a Christmas one for our family. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9kbC5eMW_0yPOWeXaf1M8PdH3UOzm_kglwjoM7Na-frcy90_c3LshwTCTtSLVu80XE3lZZBrOSzanpXAeUjxprbIdkI7kHyJTicwXDLYpEyjE7jMA9iR15mf32vWe9GZPutlH_CN3KgQ/s1600/100_2979-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9kbC5eMW_0yPOWeXaf1M8PdH3UOzm_kglwjoM7Na-frcy90_c3LshwTCTtSLVu80XE3lZZBrOSzanpXAeUjxprbIdkI7kHyJTicwXDLYpEyjE7jMA9iR15mf32vWe9GZPutlH_CN3KgQ/s400/100_2979-1.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My friend's husband cut all the holes for the chocolate kisses. After some light sanding, I painted my board a Country Tan. Now that it has sat around for a few days I think I'm going to use some antiquing glaze on the edges. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used a Silhouette Machine to cut out the tree, stars, and words from cardstock. Vinyl would have been better but I didn't have it in the colors that I wanted. I used mod podge to put the pieces on the board and then I did another layer of it on top.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizlrK3VAOkmo3DGy9U78a5YkuETvr8WECktXa6e3LC1DmqgMhtT6i4oKyhOe2vB3w67lqCemNDPMCJ0YbIPu-9a2HaU2TFKoiVfFVbND8aTaIvfHsjtoKrTG8v2QV_iGqDgYfVs1_7mvw/s1600/100_2975-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizlrK3VAOkmo3DGy9U78a5YkuETvr8WECktXa6e3LC1DmqgMhtT6i4oKyhOe2vB3w67lqCemNDPMCJ0YbIPu-9a2HaU2TFKoiVfFVbND8aTaIvfHsjtoKrTG8v2QV_iGqDgYfVs1_7mvw/s400/100_2975-1.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Finally, I laminated red circle numbers for the back of the Chocolate Kisses. My son gets so excited every time he gets to have another Christmas Chocolate! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I want to make one for Halloween but I think I'll make room for the numbers in vinyl above each hole instead of keeping track of little circles. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

We just welcomed a new niece to the family so I decided to make a cute but super simple quilt. With my brother's first kid they didn't know for sure if she was going to be a girl or not so everything they got was greens and yellows. This time they knew for sure so I was able to go with bright, girly colors. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX5qtlvGmYG6sgwACqObUfWs69Vb8_LXRYjsPNXElQxGwqCP3tOl_jZSddv9WgrdRMhOtSW0Zh9T_EGc9cnMVP7JkxbBW6ak83lttyCdrYCMt0Yz88xwpiX-4HgG1N1Ua4Ai0WhSfmrHk/s1600/100_2871.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjX5qtlvGmYG6sgwACqObUfWs69Vb8_LXRYjsPNXElQxGwqCP3tOl_jZSddv9WgrdRMhOtSW0Zh9T_EGc9cnMVP7JkxbBW6ak83lttyCdrYCMt0Yz88xwpiX-4HgG1N1Ua4Ai0WhSfmrHk/s400/100_2871.JPG" width="298" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I followed <a href="http://www.cluckclucksew.com/2010/07/tutorial-road-trip-quilt.html">The Road Trip Quilt tutorial</a> from <a href="http://www.cluckclucksew.com/">Cluck Cluck Sew</a>. I did add two more fabrics to my quilt to make it a little longer. Instead of having 1/4 yard of 10 different fabrics, I used 1/4 yard of 12 different fabrics. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After I had pieced the top of my quilt, I used a quilt frame to put the three layers together. I find that using the frame helps keep my fabric from getting bunched when I pin the three layers together. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbIesFhi1jkMWd5WixpiNYKe1nXnI5kawrLvpKElwOvTY0K-VzlZaIKnbNg6rLYLUL9CusDLa3eyMBDHv6t7AJLKGVlGVpWxOp1pelS15VbY_iQLw94EQqvnbrDF8csv2j1cW-x1eVgEI/s1600/100_2884.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbIesFhi1jkMWd5WixpiNYKe1nXnI5kawrLvpKElwOvTY0K-VzlZaIKnbNg6rLYLUL9CusDLa3eyMBDHv6t7AJLKGVlGVpWxOp1pelS15VbY_iQLw94EQqvnbrDF8csv2j1cW-x1eVgEI/s400/100_2884.JPG" width="298" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I used two yards of fabric for the back that also worked as my binding. I used the Back to Front Binding method. Here is a <a href="http://www.prudentbaby.com/2011/11/easiest-cheat-for-binding-quilt.html">Back to Front Binding tutorial</a> by <a href="http://www.prudentbaby.com/">Prudent Baby</a> that I found that is close to how I did mine. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgjYgULucQwDKa4os1OvbW19fJQOmjV_wX84R3V3nqHmAq4JL6Fvsr_YLP-ZQaex01gQLdeSTJoCsBL2ei-MlU2hjC3cD9KwC7-XQS_d0Pi2NyPvD6itdGWBe_Ye7W8-_Rss0sAvkvFaM/s1600/100_2870.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgjYgULucQwDKa4os1OvbW19fJQOmjV_wX84R3V3nqHmAq4JL6Fvsr_YLP-ZQaex01gQLdeSTJoCsBL2ei-MlU2hjC3cD9KwC7-XQS_d0Pi2NyPvD6itdGWBe_Ye7W8-_Rss0sAvkvFaM/s400/100_2870.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also used a walking foot to machine quilt the blanket. I did one line down the seam and 1/4 inch on each side of the seam. <br />
<br />
I also did a boy version of this quilt for my new nephew. Unfortunately, I didn't get pictures because my camera was in the land of the lost (aka a secret hidden pocket in my purse!)</div>Kerihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12689468977353647372noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6287178255234538502.post-30330233532346512352011-11-21T08:34:00.001-07:002011-11-21T08:43:35.070-07:00Turkey Rolls!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For Thanksgiving Day last year, I decided to liven up my rolls. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXDtrkvlVdzhfQSSDoEruR3bQfq8-JMQjiu9gNkGcZevE-94y9KSq2FR2tq4HaBaxznC5MXzt5aqVczDoWGdJZYAaNsfIDTB-ZSkaRNMbbtiPsyTrB1sozT28cu0xhKd6Tmg5V4BLVjAo/s1600/11-26+Thanksgiving+Turkey+%25284%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXDtrkvlVdzhfQSSDoEruR3bQfq8-JMQjiu9gNkGcZevE-94y9KSq2FR2tq4HaBaxznC5MXzt5aqVczDoWGdJZYAaNsfIDTB-ZSkaRNMbbtiPsyTrB1sozT28cu0xhKd6Tmg5V4BLVjAo/s320/11-26+Thanksgiving+Turkey+%25284%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used Black Peppercorns for the eyes and shaped the body and face to look like a turkey. Then, I fanned out the other balls of dough to look like the feathers. I gave each ball of dough enough room for them to rise.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA2gCcYp4i03w1OaE-PTXOT7aexnV9DrpBMEvy0XM3PmuLZUo7jqVYvFKB3-diPcj9BZ9-hd0qpAucI1jru1JpAl8aeALRpX3qrAQIZrLwbOdfVNLNtO00-y3p_E3MHTOmqsKsKuigPcA/s1600/11-26+Thanksgiving+Turkey+%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA2gCcYp4i03w1OaE-PTXOT7aexnV9DrpBMEvy0XM3PmuLZUo7jqVYvFKB3-diPcj9BZ9-hd0qpAucI1jru1JpAl8aeALRpX3qrAQIZrLwbOdfVNLNtO00-y3p_E3MHTOmqsKsKuigPcA/s320/11-26+Thanksgiving+Turkey+%25283%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next time I'll put the feet on top of the turkey body as if the turkey is sitting down. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhB-PXAxcsJs5NjK6OYmpokWzEYr8XoA_Xi5JmMYLHs98fiD4J83FhqQ1NS-mIPeybcVzUE1w9wwpjv_jt7t7yDjS6QX4IN_PVU_0jiHezLUoXmM_KInADZEaibh0snGh3qx4hl74DJlA4/s1600/11-26+Thanksgiving+Turkey+%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhB-PXAxcsJs5NjK6OYmpokWzEYr8XoA_Xi5JmMYLHs98fiD4J83FhqQ1NS-mIPeybcVzUE1w9wwpjv_jt7t7yDjS6QX4IN_PVU_0jiHezLUoXmM_KInADZEaibh0snGh3qx4hl74DJlA4/s320/11-26+Thanksgiving+Turkey+%25282%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Spread some butter on the rolls and now you have a fun way to display your rolls! </div>

A friend of mine is having her 5th baby in a few days and never had a nursing cover. I couldn't let the misfortune to go on any longer! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgM2HtWjmirwvsna-AfUQ3hUHM9zhDmcDWx4wwtQ1VBpDRMKIq8PSk3rfqk8u6Rd4aUENh3GcwxIJc6GZTmljZ9V9EB-ZSsRCnlSwOtxyqbQPy2SUjHmD0Usu3QkKXV2MkHkivdFB1fCZ8/s1600/100_2818.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgM2HtWjmirwvsna-AfUQ3hUHM9zhDmcDWx4wwtQ1VBpDRMKIq8PSk3rfqk8u6Rd4aUENh3GcwxIJc6GZTmljZ9V9EB-ZSsRCnlSwOtxyqbQPy2SUjHmD0Usu3QkKXV2MkHkivdFB1fCZ8/s400/100_2818.JPG" width="298" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think having the double layers helps the peep hole stay open while nursing. I also like having pockets on the inside to store pacifiers, nursing pads or burp cloths. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgviDlQ9KSfPn8CdJze-JHoznEO9OwYAtNVFXDMUGxTovsrbMxY8MBKhQf_TXMb2fD_j8S_JFm9l6V09UB5nLIdzNJVIieMkdluYpv27aIZX4G42xhyphenhyphene9u3yP7N6z1hMrTEoqq-PVbMGsY/s1600/100_2816.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgviDlQ9KSfPn8CdJze-JHoznEO9OwYAtNVFXDMUGxTovsrbMxY8MBKhQf_TXMb2fD_j8S_JFm9l6V09UB5nLIdzNJVIieMkdluYpv27aIZX4G42xhyphenhyphene9u3yP7N6z1hMrTEoqq-PVbMGsY/s400/100_2816.JPG" width="298" /></a></div>
<a href="http://madebythemamamonster.blogspot.com/2008/04/nursing-cover-tutorial.html">Made by the Mamamonster</a> has a great tutorial that I follow every time I make a nursing cover. It is only one sided so I also use <a href="http://oursidenotes.blogspot.com/2008/05/baby-shower.html">Our Side Notes</a> tutorial for the double sided and pockets. Someday I'll make my own combining the two!<br />
<br />
I found the fabric at JoAnns.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

My niece just turned three. Since I don't have a girl to dress up in pink, I take advantage of every birthday and Christmas that comes around.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw01c_ORdWN00gKrxXgn7cpzJw1HB5e3Avx271Ts0Xj09xIUi_lmIebky9K_m5i-iuDAZXrNGYr2OWDjSMKMqUE2nuHxBy0eWnNTAGVZSC0xtQp-3rf9_m80Qf2Q_S-ZfpVAUroOnoxco/s1600/100_2739.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw01c_ORdWN00gKrxXgn7cpzJw1HB5e3Avx271Ts0Xj09xIUi_lmIebky9K_m5i-iuDAZXrNGYr2OWDjSMKMqUE2nuHxBy0eWnNTAGVZSC0xtQp-3rf9_m80Qf2Q_S-ZfpVAUroOnoxco/s400/100_2739.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
This year I made her a cute applique bird shirt. I used scraps from my stash and made my own bird pattern on cardboard before cutting out the fabric. I found the cute lettuce edged shirt at Walmart.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8Z1lgrp0u3YLGY9fzaIxQSrv7SJGjXOhY3q2DaJMn4z8ItZJL76s1N84Tos-_xxQkMrpwlia4QyF-HiJek0XG4hjsn5hm5-zII2ZVUX462NJFfj9zKYcaP0dKVLRBMjwk9S2xas2nt8g/s1600/100_2766.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8Z1lgrp0u3YLGY9fzaIxQSrv7SJGjXOhY3q2DaJMn4z8ItZJL76s1N84Tos-_xxQkMrpwlia4QyF-HiJek0XG4hjsn5hm5-zII2ZVUX462NJFfj9zKYcaP0dKVLRBMjwk9S2xas2nt8g/s400/100_2766.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I thought it added a lot of character to have the wing from the bird not completely attached.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7a7Ib3Z1VvNa0Lu5-g9mXwQ9l7Navnylnb274ljPEBU6PoHjILI1yEagtaUfm4qEB7ldURhmpGZs5D6p9ENqwnZIJMGpVyUkMUk6WZ82kaQUPSjMLf6xIZMsz6DFi2obTzwAUXB3ZZ_0/s1600/100_2744.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7a7Ib3Z1VvNa0Lu5-g9mXwQ9l7Navnylnb274ljPEBU6PoHjILI1yEagtaUfm4qEB7ldURhmpGZs5D6p9ENqwnZIJMGpVyUkMUk6WZ82kaQUPSjMLf6xIZMsz6DFi2obTzwAUXB3ZZ_0/s400/100_2744.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I also made a Scrap Pieced Belt from the tutorial by Ashley at <a href="http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2011/07/scrap-pieced-belt-use-up-those-scraps.html">Make It and Love It</a>. Go <a href="http://weallsew.com/weallsew/files/2011/08/ScrapPiecedBelt.pdf">HERE</a> for the tutorial. Super simple and I had everything in my stash.<br />

I found that most of them worked better with an older child. Since I only have a 2 year old, I decided to come up with my own version. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizwGTIf-dWsbJ5kMfTmSH7-pb7lEgUVn7ho2e65jrpzocyWaCUmBETvD2ivBvLHd0eAfdVSW7sy62rrQf47EogR5NJK9kbSQXq8KBgKFXC1cHsZGSUD6sOSSJxXMFjfrdE9EuvDbXvDTw/s1600/Summer+Activity+Chart+Picture.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizwGTIf-dWsbJ5kMfTmSH7-pb7lEgUVn7ho2e65jrpzocyWaCUmBETvD2ivBvLHd0eAfdVSW7sy62rrQf47EogR5NJK9kbSQXq8KBgKFXC1cHsZGSUD6sOSSJxXMFjfrdE9EuvDbXvDTw/s400/Summer+Activity+Chart+Picture.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I put things that I knew my son would like. On the days that we have time, I let my little guy pick which activity he wants to do. Some days I have limited time so I pick the activity for the day. I put the picture in a cheap frame that I wasn't using anymore. Since the picture is covered with glass, we mark off the activities after we do them with a dry erase marker. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The activities that I included are:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><ul><li>Playing with his car (Cozy Coup)</li>
<li>Playing in water</li>
<li>Going for a walk</li>
<li>Watching a movie with Mom</li>
<li>Playing on the swings at our complex</li>
<li>Going to the park</li>
<li>Going to the library</li>
<li>Playing on the toys at the mall</li>
<li>Coloring on the easel</li>
<li>Going to the store and sometimes getting a cheap toy</li>
<li>Art Project</li>
<li>Going and watching the trains</li>
</ul><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6DfRC4MjbbnN1F6Z4po1DSEsphiEB7Wt159Bckd7PO96z4XyxQxwVwcGfhFQYMIkVRVkX7RR3qFwYXtdXyIKah96sren9jlvZvwHfKcFL1k3YOtZWKM28XTEPi08ud_Nzp994sGMG330/s1600/SAC.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6DfRC4MjbbnN1F6Z4po1DSEsphiEB7Wt159Bckd7PO96z4XyxQxwVwcGfhFQYMIkVRVkX7RR3qFwYXtdXyIKah96sren9jlvZvwHfKcFL1k3YOtZWKM28XTEPi08ud_Nzp994sGMG330/s400/SAC.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>I went for activities that were simple and didn't take much time out from our normal day. We've been using it for the last month and it has worked perfectly. It has helped me get out of the house and enjoy the summer with my son.<br />

The blue baby bird was for my mother-in-law and the pink baby bird was for my mother. It took less time to make the card than looking through a hundred cards at the store. I got the adorable template from <a href="http://mmmcrafts.blogspot.com/">mmmcrafts</a> and you can download the template for one of these adorable momma bird cards <a href="http://mmmcrafts.blogspot.com/2011/05/make-momma-bird-card-or-two.html">HERE</a>.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="342" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGtEWFevxWngJ4VtAOeGeEw6BwLSO8tEtjhGsyeJYDNie7j-aqmE64GqR5NDE3PlJ6ISTIAY-YKq-8LyZ-FA7lDCfcQsT6obUCGH_6NhfUHvaUr0xGywAK3VzaOIoCogxqoK5pq7s2nQjs/s400/IMG_1699.jpg" width="400" /></div><div style="text-align: center;">For inside the card, I found a wonderful poem about mother birds by <a href="http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/mother-bird-2/">Mittur Ramprasad</a>. The tutorial cuts the straps out at 4.25'' but next time I'll cut it at 3''. By cutting it thinner it will fit better in the mitten clips and the d-rings. I'll also make it a little shorter. I think a length of 18'' instead of 26'' would be more than long enough for this strap. <br />

Since I don't get to sew up cute little girls stuff for my little boy I take advantage of birthdays! With the wonderful <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/62465014/little-london-loafers-diy-sewing-pattern">London Loafer pattern</a> found at <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/sweetpeapattern?ref=pr_shop_more">Sweet Pea Patterns</a> on Etsy I was able to make these adorable shoes. That pattern is very easy to follow and I was able to make these cuties without any major sewing meltdown!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzbHyAD3OHMJghvcjEx_zJ0wZMjiSJf7xPsX3kt9cqHn35SUHEZcdRz9tx0rewKkZqvzeS3xdqmIUoPhyphenhyphenubDyZKbFBRBu-u6BjFzUg2rXB9e8_AmVJrDelpeea0XIH3QdH83u2RUPe7Ck/s1600/125_2038.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzbHyAD3OHMJghvcjEx_zJ0wZMjiSJf7xPsX3kt9cqHn35SUHEZcdRz9tx0rewKkZqvzeS3xdqmIUoPhyphenhyphenubDyZKbFBRBu-u6BjFzUg2rXB9e8_AmVJrDelpeea0XIH3QdH83u2RUPe7Ck/s320/125_2038.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I was going to make a cute little skirt to match the shoes but then I came across this cute little polo dress found at <a href="http://sumossweetstuff.blogspot.com/2011/03/tutorial-tuesday-ruffled-rugby-dress.html">Sumo's Sweet Stuff.</a> </div><div><div style="text-align: center;"><div style="text-align: center;"><img height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEqiHIE4-yjNu-ZJaHCTxlpLkf5PU7-sxCkmUbC1ghqXH7xAHJMlmoogDZfb5w5SiPq_QHn3GPEMbMmZH1BlRhTtS-Zm3BgykmqeKqAGPrDedX-snGBtjnutjBBuBJGNdPNFQCEQT3Arc/s320/SDC16652.JPG" width="212" /></div></div><div style="text-align: left;">Mine pretty much follows the tutorial except I didn't have a white knit shirt but had a bunch of knit fabric that I used instead. I also did the lettuce edge on the bottom layer instead of cutting it off which gave me four layers. Not because I hate love or lack a significant other but because Valentine's Day comes up so fast. I feel like I get all my Christmas decorations taken down, put up some winter/snow decorations and then next thing I know it is February. I end up with only two week to get something up and it usually takes me two weeks to even get around to it. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">But not this year...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXszhhg6omY89bJU7OdXFWShNfzA-fE8o2qh2aVhUKXSnkpXwxT-K9wKrti3q_MxroiWHFetFbASFhzWSl8mPv47SRduapKavNumlbONqB5e9Z8cyfgecwunbM56MiJwXaCyxk6VUz938/s1600/125_1889.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXszhhg6omY89bJU7OdXFWShNfzA-fE8o2qh2aVhUKXSnkpXwxT-K9wKrti3q_MxroiWHFetFbASFhzWSl8mPv47SRduapKavNumlbONqB5e9Z8cyfgecwunbM56MiJwXaCyxk6VUz938/s400/125_1889.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> We've had a Scrabble game sitting in our stack of games for years now and you want to know how many times we've played it...big fat ZERO! So I figured, no one would mind if a few letters were missing! I've seen these Scrabble Crossword pictures around. I took a couple different combinations I've seen and put them together.</div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div style="text-align: center;">This was just a normal 8x10 frame with a mat that is actually green turned backwards. I hot glued the letters onto a piece of scrapbook paper and then put it inside the frame. The original glass for the frame is in the back. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7Jsdsch3ZTsV_lP_x7zM4YiyGYsvTfijLaj8QCXVCamnBTzEOBau-KRNK88t8XtiUjzlJrzh8EAnF6BwS9sXKaA_2HnTkWw4ybi8KKPzMGhVh2oIZXsjs_5bdNuMKVLyChB3-z4vXHsE/s1600/125_1895.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7Jsdsch3ZTsV_lP_x7zM4YiyGYsvTfijLaj8QCXVCamnBTzEOBau-KRNK88t8XtiUjzlJrzh8EAnF6BwS9sXKaA_2HnTkWw4ybi8KKPzMGhVh2oIZXsjs_5bdNuMKVLyChB3-z4vXHsE/s400/125_1895.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">With this frame I decided to add a little bit of wide ribbon. I think it really helped the outcome. I think next time I'm not going to use shiny white paper as the back. Maybe a plain pink? <br />

I'm too cheap to spend a lot of money on shipping but I want a good gift. One day I was walking down a craft aisle and saw the magnetic sheets and I knew exactly what I wanted to make.....Family Photo Magnets!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4FQ86Zis8ZcfGJG2jMXKzbAunDl_XQKPW1zdG2HQyOrNf4cLEkxtpUq0zr2ej4lrdBYLuwWM1UFo_9jFJbqJCmcxmFRU3rr7-Shn0bAcp__LX9ap5_cKRkbE2l3BOujnDxLgbHg3r324/s1600/125_1716.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4FQ86Zis8ZcfGJG2jMXKzbAunDl_XQKPW1zdG2HQyOrNf4cLEkxtpUq0zr2ej4lrdBYLuwWM1UFo_9jFJbqJCmcxmFRU3rr7-Shn0bAcp__LX9ap5_cKRkbE2l3BOujnDxLgbHg3r324/s400/125_1716.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> Walmart Photo has this cool program where you make colleges out of regular 4x6 photos Click <a href="http://photos1.walmart.com/walmart/collageit/prd=prints/">HERE</a> for the exact location. I started by finding these perfectly girly pair of pants with pockets that have bows and little flowers and slits at the bottom. The best thing about these particular pants is that they didn't have a zipper which helped a lot when I was turning it into a skirt. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXJW8rklpRCYFnFDRdgiXpG1canv3ccXIh9cMv7H7NgbVDMElPnVk9PJD81MK1gIPGFgRx2rOTOEczrLrfokWODF9V7XiFfifWCKAxXYR4MEpFhI0xzUy9VJDKDyJlCaZ-Z0TF_FImDMQ/s1600/125_1536.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXJW8rklpRCYFnFDRdgiXpG1canv3ccXIh9cMv7H7NgbVDMElPnVk9PJD81MK1gIPGFgRx2rOTOEczrLrfokWODF9V7XiFfifWCKAxXYR4MEpFhI0xzUy9VJDKDyJlCaZ-Z0TF_FImDMQ/s400/125_1536.JPG" width="298" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> I did make the mistake of cutting the pants too long. Luckily, they are a size too big, so hopefully, my little niece will be able to grow into it more when she gets a little older.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMSvMVymtOaSUaon1QpTRhP197rHs8p0xw4VLEJRlmOzmgELup-bWWWM6PsXSK-PJiuPDqLQKt8EOqFe0-GjIawq3-2jOA1knkqGmS0Hjfw4JGdd10n6oq-LTNEmm8V9v_cFtECNfcpqI/s1600/125_1539.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMSvMVymtOaSUaon1QpTRhP197rHs8p0xw4VLEJRlmOzmgELup-bWWWM6PsXSK-PJiuPDqLQKt8EOqFe0-GjIawq3-2jOA1knkqGmS0Hjfw4JGdd10n6oq-LTNEmm8V9v_cFtECNfcpqI/s400/125_1539.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I decided to leave a little slit in the back which allows a little more movement when walking. It also helps it flare out a little more too. He pretty much hated the costume until we were outside getting candy. Don't you love the look of glee on his face?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUJ1VHhvSPTBYaSg1hH6WGj9zYWow70gsUMYKoqC_NMiU62hypA3w0dS7lAIR56d9zzNJipnByRpdkWPT_Xf9-VBpjZhMUnNjpHdtWKrYHbARnTIbY3g9t2fw_bHP_3P_YgHXOCBpJKPE/s1600/125_1460.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUJ1VHhvSPTBYaSg1hH6WGj9zYWow70gsUMYKoqC_NMiU62hypA3w0dS7lAIR56d9zzNJipnByRpdkWPT_Xf9-VBpjZhMUnNjpHdtWKrYHbARnTIbY3g9t2fw_bHP_3P_YgHXOCBpJKPE/s400/125_1460.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> For his bag I just sewed up a simple bag (tutorials all over the internet) with some fabric from my stash and then just attached a dollar store shield to the outside. I certainly do! The other day I got some (by some I mean WAY TOO MUCH) candy corn thinking I was going to make an autumn trail mix. Since I didn't have 80% of the other ingredients for it, I decided to use it to decorate with instead. Especially, after I had gained a few pounds from munching on it for a week! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitNKokYmrDtCoagT3csdKw6V8UJwQ2i6D4sbgFJr9farZa2oy2xApjW8zL86FuuKz-Z4BFphpmIwy0L1jWZldBeu827Gt4onRKARqoccuVI6SP8j-5eCXx-80FC-D26lEX2ZDsia8gR_0/s1600/125_1425.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitNKokYmrDtCoagT3csdKw6V8UJwQ2i6D4sbgFJr9farZa2oy2xApjW8zL86FuuKz-Z4BFphpmIwy0L1jWZldBeu827Gt4onRKARqoccuVI6SP8j-5eCXx-80FC-D26lEX2ZDsia8gR_0/s400/125_1425.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
For this project I used everything I had on hand. In the spring and summer this picture frame holds a picture of one of my outings with my husband and my dear friend Mandy and her family. We have this beautiful waterfall background behind us which goes perfect with my spring/summer decor but not so well with my Autumn decorations. <br />
<br />
I got some card stock from my stash and glued the smaller, tan card stock on the dark brown. I hot glued my candy corn in the shape that I wanted with a little twig sticking out the top. Then I used the same mat and frame from the original picture to frame my candy corn pumpkin. Super simple, quick and cheap and has saved me from eating at least 140 calories! Crafting is my new diet!!<br />

fyi...my talented mother is responsible for the cute toll painted in the background.Kerihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12689468977353647372noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6287178255234538502.post-14052765853654822032010-09-28T14:58:00.002-06:002011-08-13T15:14:02.717-06:00Ribbon Organizer and Dry Erase Frame<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">A while ago, when I started making bows for my niece, I purchased most of my ribbon online in bulk. The prices and variety were great online but unfortunately most of them didn't come with the spools. I've seen so many great ideas online on how to store ribbon but most of them use the spool. I didn't come up with this idea until I started cleaning out my craft room and came across a shelf I had purchased several years ago</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg86AZLKgBeVxR_ELhyE9MSMPhF8huuy8-85JJZD9tfmjLFDe4JBM4KnfGDOZBtfbBYt0oB1HqKxQv4A8DBVy2w5NUoKLMNOUMqb-lPCkiMq-XvgEDfIt-msmpw0iaFPZStpt-L9XZRhzg/s1600/125_1391.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg86AZLKgBeVxR_ELhyE9MSMPhF8huuy8-85JJZD9tfmjLFDe4JBM4KnfGDOZBtfbBYt0oB1HqKxQv4A8DBVy2w5NUoKLMNOUMqb-lPCkiMq-XvgEDfIt-msmpw0iaFPZStpt-L9XZRhzg/s400/125_1391.JPG" width="298" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The shelf was in desperate need of some new paint. It was painted a teal color but it was missing a few coats so the dark (black I think) color wasn't covered completely. It needed a little sanding and paint and was ready to go. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBOpnJ4TYA2hdfNYYMnHzVrUsTvSyNNMk8xygOkGyI8xPTuzy2MAizwnyE1npDHf8X-Oqi-ksNYD21Rt7w0tbBXeouOirNSSVINMo3afdUxGd27iUqzdCRdxRCoSBAyoH5XKNYERZ6uLk/s1600/042397578991xl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBOpnJ4TYA2hdfNYYMnHzVrUsTvSyNNMk8xygOkGyI8xPTuzy2MAizwnyE1npDHf8X-Oqi-ksNYD21Rt7w0tbBXeouOirNSSVINMo3afdUxGd27iUqzdCRdxRCoSBAyoH5XKNYERZ6uLk/s320/042397578991xl.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I just picked a color from my stash and then I put some antiquing glaze on it. I found my glaze at Lowe's for around $8. I've used it on several projects and haven't put a dent in it. A little goes a VERY long ways. This glaze is so simple to use and adds character to painted pieces. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijmsQvXIbBN1g1mMY_ZEFfwVjv92f2rwvZxy2hSEPG-hwHRxcEMQJWr1uCaJe_4CsnucXFWAb-Wvk020Xk95mFg1exUUni20tvqkZJWQQbGeXoHLf5AHQrTq6YlAhyk7VNwTEv09lQq5Y/s1600/125_1374.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijmsQvXIbBN1g1mMY_ZEFfwVjv92f2rwvZxy2hSEPG-hwHRxcEMQJWr1uCaJe_4CsnucXFWAb-Wvk020Xk95mFg1exUUni20tvqkZJWQQbGeXoHLf5AHQrTq6YlAhyk7VNwTEv09lQq5Y/s400/125_1374.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I then picked up a few wooden dowels to wrap the ribbon around. The top one as you can see, has the towel sticking out both sides. I can easily remove ribbon spools or add new ones in. For the middle dowel, I drilled a hole partially through both sides of the shelf with one side deeper than the other. It isn't one that I want to remover very frequently but it has enough give on it that I can. The final dowel is held up by ribbon that is attached to the back of the shelf. The ribbon is looped around the dowel instead of glued so I can easily remove it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The four dowels on top are permanent. I just drilled partially down into the shelf and then glued the dowels down. I have them spaced far enough apart that I can put spools on later or I can add more vertical dowels. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigPRLZraYgHCCN7npRv9xvDRgbin829owqY61evOLzDu2HQE52ca0J_nZHozALwEkVJrATC6hbdd4Vg7-NY_Nq2KJyf9IEYeMqOCGTh0K8UN3QqqIJUAeBmVbxwHKvf-KD-W1ANbYBo5o/s1600/125_1388.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigPRLZraYgHCCN7npRv9xvDRgbin829owqY61evOLzDu2HQE52ca0J_nZHozALwEkVJrATC6hbdd4Vg7-NY_Nq2KJyf9IEYeMqOCGTh0K8UN3QqqIJUAeBmVbxwHKvf-KD-W1ANbYBo5o/s400/125_1388.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The final thing I did was make a dry erase frame to go next to my ribbon holder. I often have so many ideas in my head that I forget about most of them. I wanted somewhere I could write down things that need done, reminders, and future projects. </div><div style="text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_GDPzwTi6mT12H7g4PUOTZiatj0Fhi38hJxvhnKIq6gr1s0WyYwm9RcZIQpxHwYPE8EGlSE3QXBY7np8TCZyGE0pl-3xp693LcsMN1UpDuKWg91R5K8meJUF_hNraGR_rcXUzad5D2PE/s1600/125_1347.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_GDPzwTi6mT12H7g4PUOTZiatj0Fhi38hJxvhnKIq6gr1s0WyYwm9RcZIQpxHwYPE8EGlSE3QXBY7np8TCZyGE0pl-3xp693LcsMN1UpDuKWg91R5K8meJUF_hNraGR_rcXUzad5D2PE/s400/125_1347.JPG" width="300" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">All I did was paint it and use the antiquing glaze on it. I then cut some scrap fabric that fit just behind the glass and then closed it up. Finally, I just looped some ribbon at the bottom to store the marker. <br />

I found these letters at Michael but it wasn't until after I bought them that I realized they would be hard to cover because the edges are rounded. After getting some advice from friends, I settled on doing a college on each letter. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3wFSfZP_VwJ16djlbxKsLAKkrrxahSvuXKy0VVTnUBS5-rb6ilK54Su4629NBTrozXrxc7jN_zhjlMCHJzwdL3GRglGbjP5cRRuNgHFeDh3yWtNqxTf0lF_PKZ4YPl0VEUC83tHGF1Ms/s1600/125_1220.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3wFSfZP_VwJ16djlbxKsLAKkrrxahSvuXKy0VVTnUBS5-rb6ilK54Su4629NBTrozXrxc7jN_zhjlMCHJzwdL3GRglGbjP5cRRuNgHFeDh3yWtNqxTf0lF_PKZ4YPl0VEUC83tHGF1Ms/s400/125_1220.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I first painted each letter and than I glued each little paper on with mod podge. I finished up by putting several coats mod podge on top. Very simple! I did the airplane and car the same way except it was a little harder to paint before putting the paper on top. They were already painted a really ugly blue and red so I spent the effort to repaint them before covering them. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrQNlDfHURf8GeJ8_mTgeK2kMurJPAp0Wo85dyytCjY-18d3dd88ooYuyDG5jnZk6ASMAwjNy5ZLaYR9cmPj49240IEQ2rPNb1BQbLejc-jpxbnH0R61AQQmWLHtWRn_-xk1fHi5Rm8mo/s1600/Letter+A.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrQNlDfHURf8GeJ8_mTgeK2kMurJPAp0Wo85dyytCjY-18d3dd88ooYuyDG5jnZk6ASMAwjNy5ZLaYR9cmPj49240IEQ2rPNb1BQbLejc-jpxbnH0R61AQQmWLHtWRn_-xk1fHi5Rm8mo/s200/Letter+A.JPG" width="143" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAYZxVhdfmjbi2ZjN3fji3KznJwkwDD-QHcfhO9RDsguAK3bec2g8M5O1SPpGTcvwr0_ch8Z729Gb6MJpZBuJjgW5z0kzJ6piJZN763zd7c3rhsqFW3Kp5r_qW3ARrXdI5fFuoJU5GD0E/s1600/Letter+L.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAYZxVhdfmjbi2ZjN3fji3KznJwkwDD-QHcfhO9RDsguAK3bec2g8M5O1SPpGTcvwr0_ch8Z729Gb6MJpZBuJjgW5z0kzJ6piJZN763zd7c3rhsqFW3Kp5r_qW3ARrXdI5fFuoJU5GD0E/s200/Letter+L.JPG" width="143" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<div style="text-align: center;">The unfortunately thing about his project is that I'm going away from these colors in my son's room now that he isn't a baby anymore. Oh well! I guess it will teach me to not procrastinate finishing projects! </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I think that the letters were each $1 and the airplane and car were on clearance at Michaels for .25 cents each. I'm not sure how much the board was but you can find things like that at thrift stores that either need to be repainted or sanded and stained again. </div>Kerihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12689468977353647372noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6287178255234538502.post-7698969702997057052010-08-17T22:16:00.001-06:002010-08-17T22:18:38.564-06:00Pokemon ABC'sI had a grand idea the other day...I would use my son's current obsession with POKEMON as a teaching tool. My son knows more about Pokemon than any 4 year old should ever know (maybe more than a 25 year old should know), but we have certainly had a difficult time tackling letters and numbers. He nearly refuses to pick up a pen or pencil and write, so my hope was if I combined Pokemon and ABC's (yes, there are Pokemon for every letter of the alphabet), he might get excited about it writing and learning those letters . We'll hope and wish and work for the best! <span style="font-size:85%;">(By the way... a cool thing about this project is that it cost me $0.99 because I ran out of glue and had to buy more. I had the blank book already and just created my own template on Publisher and printed the pics off at home</span>)<br /><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSAVK7jhnazuwzGdiv3TwGJn2nlrfp1uF5fmGMdbt7SC5XobV4_BNiJbIb6ZT_j4OmcZhBJLbZ_wxW3eFzN6lwFlsUsI-PB0Es2qhCTsLF3p_8SuphEcFDVFf54cGGTBT69oG9or8q54Y/s1600/scan0001.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 218px; height: 199px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSAVK7jhnazuwzGdiv3TwGJn2nlrfp1uF5fmGMdbt7SC5XobV4_BNiJbIb6ZT_j4OmcZhBJLbZ_wxW3eFzN6lwFlsUsI-PB0Es2qhCTsLF3p_8SuphEcFDVFf54cGGTBT69oG9or8q54Y/s320/scan0001.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5506398021462025410" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKijfVWK26NmBYb4N__IX2aEIhoqEprYIeKtHuFarORfdVanWmRcS-7oxARh61mV4URmj2JaDYCOuo8xSsVl3KKPebGdxXEd377PDmLH_rL4eMJKbiHCep7cqBXTe_7xTmP5EfY5KCCro/s1600/scan0002.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 218px; height: 219px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKijfVWK26NmBYb4N__IX2aEIhoqEprYIeKtHuFarORfdVanWmRcS-7oxARh61mV4URmj2JaDYCOuo8xSsVl3KKPebGdxXEd377PDmLH_rL4eMJKbiHCep7cqBXTe_7xTmP5EfY5KCCro/s320/scan0002.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5506398024927889954" border="0" /></a>The introduction to the book went well!
